The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) offers a variety of educational materials designed for health care professionals involved in treatment of acute stroke. The materials can be ordered in single copies or in quantity, and can be used in medical schools and education settings, hospitals, clinics, and other health care facilities. The community education kit is a tool for increasing public awareness about stroke. Additional stroke-focused public-education materials are also available for free from NINDS.

Know Stroke Community Education Kit
This boxed kit of materials has everything needed for planning and conducting a stroke education event. Included is a facilitator's guide, with step-by-step training on how to host a stroke awareness event; brochures in Spanish and English; posters; and an award-winning 8-minute videotape featuring interviews with medical experts and stroke patients. Each kit costs $10; and can be ordered online through PayPal.
 
Spanish Stroke Toolkit    NEW
The Spanish-language toolkit on stroke is designed to be used by lay health educators (promotores de salud), community leaders, and healthcare professionals to educate Hispanics about the signs of stroke and the importance of calling 911 promptly. This substantial boxed toolkit includes a 13-minute Spanish-language video, Spanish-language brochures, and a flipchart. The cost of the tool kit, including shipping, is $35. NIH Stroke Scale
A portable, pocket-sized, laminated reference booklet for health professionals who administer the NIH Stroke Scale to stroke patients. Each scale costs $1.75 and can be ordered online through PayPal.

NIH Stroke Scale Training
A DVD designed to instruct health care professionals to be certified in use of the NIH Stroke Scale. This new version (2.0) is compatible with computer-based DVD drives as well as DVD players. The two-disc set costs $50 and can be ordered online through PayPal.


A PAL version (international) of the NIH Stroke Scale Training DVD is also available for $50. It can be ordered online through PayPal.

The two-disc set features:

  • Detailed instruction on each scale item to teach you how to administer and score all items in the NIH Stroke Scale;
  • Two demonstration cases to test your skill by allowing you to score the results before hearing the examiner provide the score;
  • Three full certification sets of six patients each that allows you to score patients and submit your answers to an accrediting organization for certification; and
  • An introduction and commentary from leading stroke experts that provide insight on the significance of the NIH Stroke Scale and tips for proper scoring.
